Ethiopian Tigray Community in Minnesota held a community gathering on January 26, 2019 at the American Legion facility in Richmond Minnesota. The community embarked its event by playing fun games around 5pm followed by a delicious dinner provided by its board members. The Board members presented a detailed review of year 2018 and its plan for 2019.
It can be said the year 2018 has been an eventful year and our community was a leader in every front across North America. To mention some of the contribution made by this community, as follows:
ETCMN was the first community in North America who donate approximately $9,000 towards to the Displaced Tegaru Relief Fund (DTRF) impact. This cause impacted all out sister communities to follow our path.
ETCMN was the only community in Minnesota who supported the Ethiopian Eritrean Student Union (EESU) travel cost to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to complete their mission of supporting Ethiopia in education and health awareness.
ETCMN also showed great leadership to create Coalition of Ethiopian Communities in Minnesota. This coalition is believed to be bringing all Ethiopians together to enjoy our differences, culture and amazing history.
Our community seems to start the ground running already in 2019. Our community has gathered gently used clothes from its beautiful members to be delved to Displaced Tegaru in Tigray and it is in the process of finding the fund for shipment costs.
The community center is working hard to establish its own center. It is still calling its members to pledge $1000 and pay their membership dues continually.
In order to finance the building, ETCMN has identified three organizations in North America that potentially can support a non-profit organization like that of ours. As such our community leaders have submitted grant application to each those three organizations.
One of the highlights during our annual meeting and also something that we expect each of our members to own it was Volunteerism. The board has discussed a volunteer opportunity at US bank Stadium and Target. This opportunity is also blessed by our "Aba", priest. We are calling each member to volunteer at least four times in the year 2019. Members can also volunteer more than four times to finance all or portion of their $1000 pledge.
There was also "Gauyla" right after the presentation and few questions from its members led by DJ Filmon. The Gauyla continued until close, 12:30pm.
Thank you for those who came and we kindly ask everyone to come and support their community.
