$40,000 was pledged in one day

Invitation to community members to contribute

Ethiopian Tigray community in Minnesota held a public meeting on Saturday November 5, 2016. Present in the meeting were executive board members, elders, women, youth and others. During the meeting, a plan to establish a community center was presented by the executive board. A live and constructive discussion was held about the alternative ways to acquire a building for the community center. After considering all the alternatives, the assembly has unanimously decided to raise the money and buy the building in cash instead of soliciting mortgage from banks. The money will mainly be collected from members and will also be supplemented by different fund raising activities.

All participants of the meeting came with a great determination to realize the establishment of the community center. All participants with no reservation unanimously decided to give $1000 each household to be paid within 5 months. As a result, $40,000 was booked in that meeting for the acquisition of the building.

The assembly also decided to establish a committee that would focus on acquiring the building for the community center. The committee which will operate under the leadership of the executive board will be mandated with raising the necessary funds, searching suitable building, negotiating and facilitation of acquisition of the building.

The executive board of ETC-MN is in the process of selecting the building acquisition committee. In the meantime, a closed bank account, that is dedicated for the building fund, will be opened so that all members of the community can contribute directly to the building fund. It is estimated that there are more than 300 Ethiopian Tigraians in Minnesota. If all take the same initiative, we will be able to raise more than $300,000 which will be more than half of the average price of the building. The executive board of ETC-MN hereby calls up on all members of the community to follow the same initiative the participants of the meeting took and contribute $1000 each household to be paid in 5 months.
